The backpack program fills the gap left on weekends when children do not have access to after-school breakfasts and/or lunches. This program focuses on distributing nutritious, easy to prepare food to children at risk of hunger. Help pack the bags or hold a food drive to supply children with weekend meals.
Senior Food Boxes(CSFP):
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of low-income elderly persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods. CSFP is administered at the Federal level by the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Volunteers with phone and/or computer skills are needed to assist with filing, mailings, data entry, answering phones and greeting guests.
Reclamation and Recovery Program
Volunteers sort, clean, and repackage food into 40 pound boxes that are distributed to adults, families, and seniors in need. Food and personal care items are received from grocery stores such as Kroger, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Meijer Save A Lot, Ruler Foods, Marsh, etc., and through local food drives.
Backpack and/or Senior Box Program
Volunteers work together to help solve hunger for our youth and seniors by packing backpacks and senior boxes with nutritious and easy to prepare food.
Mobile Food Distributions
Volunteers assist in large distribution of shelf stable foods, produce, frozen foods, breads, and bakery items to individual who are hungry. Businesses, Corporations, Nonprofits, Service Clubs or Churches can pay for the delivery to the location of their choice to distribute these products. The cost is $500 to distribute 5,000 pounds of food or $1,000 to distribute 10,000 pounds of food.
Whether you’re an expert at painting, cleaning, data entry, marketing, or you name it, your skill sets are always appreciated at the West Ohio Food Bank.
Internships are the most effective way for students to gain work experience before graduation. Food and Fund Drives
West Ohio Food Bank relies heavily on community support to help feed the hungry in our 11 county service area. Why not host a food or fund drive at your business, school, church, etc.? Every $1 donated to the West Ohio Food Bank allows us to provide 6 meals to those in need.
